Why traditional card games are more suited to PCs

Card games continue to be a popular way of passing our time. Whether it’s snap with our children or inviting friends around for a poker night, there’s always a fun time to be had. In the modern world, though, we mainly play traditional card games on our PCs (personal computers, not playing cards) rather than consoles. Why is this the case?

When we think of people playing on their consoles, it’s not one of the players hoping for some luck when playing baccarat, blackjack or poker. Instead, we picture excited people trying to kill dragons, win a gunfight or score another goal in the latest FIFA release.

It’s not really the same if playing card games like blackjack on a console. There’s not a great look to the game you’re playing. It’s usually just a card table with a set of rules and the all-important playing cards. That can’t match up to the amazing graphics seen on most console games, so it’s best to play those rather than spending your time hoping to get 21.

When you do play card games on your consoles, it’s all about enjoying the game. The thrill of getting a flush or a straight or the next card gives you a win over the dealer. There’s no money at stake, however, and the fact is that online card games have that gambling element to them.

It’s even more enjoyable if your good luck playing baccarat or poker can win you some money as long as you gamble responsibly. The gambling element of traditional card games means that playing in that manner on your consoles isn’t possible.

Participating in online tournaments is one of the major pluses of playing traditional card games on your PC. This is particularly the case when it comes to poker. This has become immensely popular recently, but you can’t play these monster tournaments on your consoles.

The bespoke PC software is needed to run the biggest online poker tournaments, where many thousands of players can compete at the same time.

Now these online poker tournaments can be so exciting and lucrative as well. It’s a great reason to play them on your PC and leave the console to enjoy all the great action games.

A significant introduction to gambling sites for many has been the arrival of the Live Casino. These see card games being played in an environment as close as you can get to a trip down to your local land-based casino.

There are live dealers whom you can interact with as the action is streamed live from a remote studio. Again, this is ideal for PCs due to the software needed for these games to run properly.

If playing card games on your PC, you must register an account with a licensed and regulated online casino. This means joining one that has been granted a license to operate by the UK Gambling Commission or one of the other larger gaming authorities. You can play at unregulated online casinos, but that’s not advisable due to the lack of consumer protection.

The length of games is another factor that needs to be considered. A game of blackjack and baccarat can be over fast. Compare that with the action-packed lengthy adventure games you could be playing instead. Playing and trying to move up the levels is far better suited to a console than some card games over in a flash.

Some card games, like those online tournaments, are played over a lengthy period and need great concentration from the players. The simple fact is that when someone buys a console, they don’t come out of the shop shouting: “Great. Now I can spend all afternoon playing bridge and poker.”

The games that are played on consoles are often ones that have a storyline attached to them. With graphics that wouldn’t look out of place on a cinema screen, players can get involved with what’s happening.

Franchises such as Call of Duty and Tomb Raider are ideal for consoles. They have characters that you can play as they take part in their latest adventure. It’s all so much better than just endless games of blackjack with no characters to follow.

Therefore, you can see that if you wish to enjoy some card games, it’s best to use your PC rather than play on your console.
