The Division 2 Native PS5 Version Is ‘Unlikely’ Says Creative Director

The Division 2 is unlikely to receive a native PS5 and Xbox Series X/S release, according to the game’s creative director, Yannick Banchereau.

Speaking with MP1st, Banchereau explained that making a native version for current-generation systems would result in the current PS4 and Xbox One editions being left behind.

That’s unlikely because if we really wanted to take full advantage of those, since we only have one version of the game that is available on all platforms, taking full advantage of those would mean that the game would no longer be available on the old generations. We still have a lot of players that play on all generations and we are not ready to leave them behind and ask them to upgrade. Right now we are trying to make sure every time we add something, it still runs smoothly on the old gen as well.

The Division 2 has been patched for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S, allowing for 4K resolution and 60 FPS, so it’s not as if the game doesn’t perform well on those consoles, thanks of course to backwards compatibility.
