Sony Has Reportedly Failed To Appeal Austrian Verdict On FIFA Loot Boxes

According to a report on German website GamesMarkt, Sony Interactive Entertainment has failed to appeal a verdict in an Austria district court regarding FIFA Ultimate Team packs, which concluded they are a form of illegal gambling in the country.

Earlier this year, the court ruled that the console manufacturer owned players a refund of Ultimate Team packs that PlayStation FIFA players made over the PlayStation Store, as the ability to sell packs on a secondary market constitutes them as an illegal form of gambling.

However, GamesMarkt reports that the regional court that the case would have appealed had not receive any motion from representatives of Sony Interactive Entertainment Europe Ltd, so the ruling has now become final.

Furthermore, Padronus, an Austrian legal firm, has revealed that hundreds of other players are interesting in pursuing similar claims, mentioning games such as FIFA, Counter-Strike, Fortnite, and Call of Duty.
