Embark Studios has announced that ARC Raiders has completely changed genres from a third-person co-op shooter to a ‘player-versus-player-versus-environment survival extraction shooter.’
Speaking on a blog post, Aleksander Grondal, the game’s producer, commented:
Last spring, we made the decision to move the release of ARC Raiders in order to focus on releasing THE FINALS, our team-based first-person shooter, as our first game. At that time, we also said we were giving the ARC Raiders team time to add player-versus-player to the existing foundation of the game.
Since then, over the course of development, ARC Raiders has taken the shape of what we believe to be a truly promising player-versus-player-versus-environment survival extraction shooter—a game that stays true to the ARC Raiders universe and we’re having a blast testing internally.
ARC Raiders is scheduled for release on PS5, PC, and Xbox Series X/S at some point in 2023. Here’s the new blurb to mark the game’s transition to another genre:
ARC Raiders is a free-to-play, third-person, player-versus-player-versus-environment extraction shooter set in a lethal future earth ravaged by a mechanized threat known as ARC.
